106,000 Malaysians are Expected to Undergo Dialysis by 2040!
“Approximately 15.5% or over 5 million Malaysians are facing chronic kidney disease (CKD),”
The Chief Executive of the Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy, Azrul Mohd Khalib also added, “Every year, more than 10,000 patients are diagnosed and require dialysis, with this number continuing to rise. Half of these cases are linked to diabetes.”
So, What Exactly is Hemodialysis?
Before that, it is important for us to understand the true function of our kidneys. The kidneys act as the body’s filtration system, removing waste products, excess fluids, and balancing chemicals.
When both kidneys are damaged, it leads to the accumulation of waste and toxic substances, which are harmful to the body.
Therefore, to replace the function of damaged kidneys, hemodialysis treatment is carried out, where it works to cleanse the blood by removing waste toxins, excess salts, and fluids from the patient’s body.
The Harsh Reality of Life for Dialysis Patients
They are forced to depend on dialysis machines for the rest of their lives. Imagine, hemodialysis patients must undergo treatment three times a week for the entirety of their lives.
The cost of each treatment session ranges from RM200 to RM250. That’s over RM3,000 just to cover the treatment costs each month, not including the expenses for long-distance travel and additional treatments!
What about patients with low incomes? How can they afford the treatment? With the rising cost of living, coupled with the equally high cost of treatment, how can they continue with their lives?
This is Where Your Help is Needed!
One of our initiatives is to establish a Welfare-Based Dialysis Centre specifically aimed at helping low-income individuals who are often burdened by the high costs of medical care, especially for chronic treatments like dialysis.
This initiative provides a way out by allowing patients to apply for sponsorships from agencies such as:
With this sponsorship, patients can receive treatment without the worry of additional costs.
Building the Hemodialysis Centre in Sungai Sumun
In Hilir Perak, towards Bagan Datuk and Hutan Melintang, there isn’t a single welfare-based dialysis centre for patients to undergo treatment.
They are forced to travel long distances, often taking up to an hour one way to reach the nearest dialysis centre.
The construction of the Hemodialysis Centre in Sungai Sumun, Perak, will make it easier for patients living nearby to access the care they desperately need.

Let’s Be Their Lifesaver!
With the increasing number of kidney patients in our country, many are still waiting for the ‘compassion’ from all of us to lighten the burden they face.
Come, join us in helping them. We are aiming to secure 6 dialysis machines, and the funds for 2 machines have already been met. We only need another 4 more machines. With your support, our target of approximately RM164,000 is within reach, and together, we can make it happen!
You can also make a waqf in memory of a loved one who has passed.
