Terrifying earthquake seems like ‘Doomsday’ in war-torn Turkiye and Syria
On Monday, while people were asleep, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck close to the city of Gaziantep in southeast Turkiye around local time (01:17 GMT).
The earthquake brought down whole apartment blocks in Turkish cities and piled more devastation on millions of Syrians displaced by years of war.
Thousands of people have been confirmed killed, with thousands more injured.
As buildings collapsed in towns and cities throughout neighbouring nations, sparking desperate searches for survivors amid the rubble of collapsed buildings.
Our collaborators in Turkiye say, this earthquake is the most terrifying of the last 25 years.
Videos posted on social media showed horrifying scenes of buildings reduced to piles of rubble in several cities in southeast Turkiye.
Even worse, a hospital in the province of Hatay was instantly devastated, engulfing all of the staff members who were on duty when it happened.

The dead toll has now risen to more than 22,765 people (as of 7:00 a.m, 11/02/2023 Australia time) with more than 30,000 people sustaining injuries.
More than 298,000 people have been forced to leave their homes under -1 degree temperature due to this week’s deadly earthquake
It is so devastating when we received news from our team in Turkiye.
Loss of loved ones, the destruction of homes and properties, and the loss of food supplies will surely be a great test for them.
